These are not rules, but are suggestions to help to ensure your visit with us is a pleasurable experience for all.
Forum and Message Board Etiquette
Read the forum guidelines – Read the forum rules to know what is expected of you while participating.
Avoid duplicate posts – Review the forums before posting a new topic to avoid duplicating posts.
Don’t use all caps – The use of all capital letters is known as shouting and is generally considered offensive.
Use correct spelling and punctuation – Be courteous. Make an effort to use language properly. Avoid text-speak or abbreviations that may be unfamiliar to others.
Use relevant topic titles - Choose topic titles that are specific and descriptive so others can easily select what they are most interested in reading.
Trolling is not welcome – A troll is someone who intentionally tries to create controversy or stirs things up. Respectful discussion is welcome, instigating arguments is not.
Ask before you assume – It is sometimes difficult to gauge the intent of another’s words. Before assuming the worst, ask what was meant.
Personal issues do not belong on the forum – Do not air personal issues with other members in public. Use private messages or email to resolve your differences.
No flaming – Flaming is posting something nasty, inflammatory, derogatory, insulting or hostile about another person. If you wish to make a point, always be courteous and respectful.
Respect other people’s privacy – Do not share what is said in private. Do not share photos or videos with other people in them without their consent. Do not give out someone's personal information without their permission.
Protect your own privacy – All personal information you share on online is stored somewhere. Before sharing anything personal, think twice and consider how damaging the information could be if it is abused.
Do as the moderators say – Comply with the moderators’ requests whether you agree with them or not. When you join a forum, you agree to play by the owner's rules. If you have a legitimate complaint, make it respectfully in private.
Freedom of Speech does not apply to Forums and Message Boards – The First Amendment states:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."
The First Amendment regulates the actions of Congress and the government, not the actions of private citizens. It does not give you the right to say whatever you want however you want. However, those who do say whatever they want however they want on a website are legally responsible for what they say, and can have actions taken against them.
