compared At the same time as The Conquering Worms I read Apocalypse Z by Manel Loureiro, which I actually have yet to finish. Apocalypse Z is four hundred pages long, narrated in first person and deals with zombies. Two apocalyptic novels, but very different from each other. Brian Keene's style never tires. The story progresses, presents an attention to detail that does not slow down the pace of reading. Three hundred pages that are devoured.
I'm more or less halfway through Manel Loureiro's novel, I've read about two hundred and fifty pages and the story is getting slow. It has too many details, it is often repetitive. If I picked up Brian Keene's novel looking forward to reading Special Data another page and another chapter, I picked up Manel Loureiro's a little reluctantly. At first he was compelling, but I think he already said what he had to say several pages ago. Flaws of the novel The Conquering Worms by Brian Keene The fantastic and mythological elements There are several in the novel, although from the title I would have expected only one.
Some may find a logical, and even scientific, explanation, while others, in my opinion, are a little too risky, even in a novel like this. The worms : they are the real protagonists of the story. Worms, earthworms, of every size and ferocity. They are well represented, they also have their own logic and perfect placement in the context. I am led to believe that they exist, that they developed into those horrible dimensions due to some environmental problem, a military experiment gone wrong, etc. They are believable within the story.
