In the past, as a local music blogger, I’ve been frustrated at Tuscaloosa’s indifference toward original music. In the bar scene, musicians are more background music than main event. My theory is people treat Tuscaloosa like a rental car; it’s not theirs so they use it for a short while, trash it, give it no respect and never consider it their home. Why put down roots or slow down for speed bumps if you paid the insurance up front, right? Recently signs of change has begun to appear. People are beginning to realize Tuscaloosa something more than a tailgating parking lot. Music is only a small part of that, but it’s a microcosm of a larger mentality.
